Geoffrey Nelson (Emil, Director)
Geoff has been acting professionally for more than forty years. A native of Maine and graduate of Bowdoin College, Nelson has performed in everything from summer stock to dinner theatre, from resident theatre to touring productions to one-man shows.
Locally, Geoff has been praised for his performances in The Mystery of Irma Vep, The Drawer Boy, The Pillowman, The Seafarer, Dealer’s Choice, Taking Sides, Uncle Vanya, Of Mice and Men, American Buffalo and Glengarry Glen Ross at CATCO.

He has also acted in Circle Mirror Transformation for Available Light and Under Milkwood for Players Theatre, and has been a professional guest artist/actor for Denison, Otterbein and the Ohio State Universities. The Central Ohio Critics Circle twice selected him as Best Actor of the Year for his performances in Uncle Vanya and Rickey.

Additionally, Geoff spent two seasons performing Shakespeare in rotating repertory with The Theatre at Monmouth, toured with Montana Shakespeare-in-the-Parks for two years, acted in dinner theatre in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in summer stock at Weathervane Playhouse.
He both directed and played Branch Rickey in the world premiere of the one-man show Rickey by Jerry Holt at the Vern Riffe Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. He later performed it at the Baseball Hall-of-Fame in Cooperstown, NY; in Atlanta; St. Louis; and in Bexley, Delaware and Columbus, Ohio.

His most recent feature film work includes Kitchen Hamlet and Take Me Home; he also is slated to appear as a “Crime Lord” in the upcoming film, Bad Men Don’t Die.
Geoff founded CATCO, the Contemporary American Theatre Company, in 1984 and served as its Artistic Director for 26 years.
At CATCO, he produced more than 200 plays and directed such shows as A Tuna Christmas, The Grapes of Wrath, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Little Foxes, The Exonerated, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), A Christmas Memory and Of Mice and Men, among many others.

Geoff has also served as the Artistic Director of Weathervane Playhouse in Newark, Ohio.
In addition to acting, directing and producing, Geoff has taught theatre or guest directed at Otterbein, Denison, Wittenberg, Ohio State and Ohio Northern Universities, as well as at the Pontifical College Josephinum.
He is the recipient of awards from the Ohio Theatre Alliance, the Theatre Roundtable of Central Ohio, the Central Ohio Critics Circle, the Ohioana Library Association, the Huntington Disease Society and was the 2010 recipient of the Raymond J. Hanley Fellowship from the Columbus Arts Endowment.
Geoff is a long-time member of Actors Equity and a resident of Upper Arlington, Ohio.
