SUBMISSION POLICY for READINGS

Note: No Submission Opportunities Available at this Time

PURPOSE:
To provide Ohio playwrights with a venue to hear their work read and to receive constructive audience feedback.
To provide APT with the opportunity to establish artistic relationships with playwrights.

DEFINITION OF NEW WORK:
A play that has no paid production history and that has not had a reading before an APT audience or a theatre audience in Columbus, Ohio.

STANDARDS/CRITERIA:
As standard theatre protocol, APT gives the playwright the opportunity to distance themselves from their work and experience the interpretation of their script through the lens of a director and actors. To that end, the playwright shall not perform or direct in APT NEW WORKS readings.

A reading of a specific work shall be limited to one reading only.

A playwright should submit his/her work only when they consider it to be a polished draft that can benefit from minimal revisions suggested through audience feedback.

Scripts should be submitted in standard Dramatists Guild “production” format and include a character description page.
Preference will be given to works with general audience appeal. We consider both the comedy and drama genres.

A brief playwright bio (300 words or less) should be included with a submission.

The playwright should provide a brief synopsis (150 words or less) of the play.

Scripts should be sent in PDF format to submissions@aportabletheatre.
